Helping Students Improve Scholastic Achievement and Foster Healthy Competition

On February 20, the Filipino Community of Seattle Family Academy will hold its yearly Spelling Bee and Math Competition at the Filipino Community Center.  Students from Grades 1-5 are invited to participate. The event, now in its 4th year, typically draws approximately 15 students in each grade level.

" The fun begins at home with the goal of learning the spelling and meaning of words. Taking part in the Spelling Bee enables students to gain confidence and experience the spirit of competition.  It's about having fun and not about winning”, beamed Nolette Serra, Committee Chair."  This annual competition reinforces and restores the value of education in the center of Filipinos and Filipino American families’ lives.  Family Academy includes Tropa Filipiniana, Parents Club, Get Smart, Series, Summer Science Program, Spelling Bee and Math Competition, and Culture and Language Program.  The Filipino Community of Seattle FCS is a non -profit multiservice community organization serving over 6,000 members since 1935.

The Annual Spelling Bee and Math Competition, held on Presidents Day, provides opportunity for families to tour the center; and get to know other parents and FCS staff and volunteers. The competition begins at 1pm and ends at 3pm.

For more information, call 206 722 9372 or visit our website www.fcseattle.org for competition rules and forms.
